What is Cupping?
Cupping therapy is a therapeutic technique that utilizes a vacuum force or suction created beneath a small vessel or glass cup applied onto the skin's surface. The vaccum force or suction is created by a control small flamed place under the glass cup.
How does Cupping benefit me?
Pain and pain relieving therapuetic procedures, like Dry Needling, physiology is still being researched. There are different theories out as to what could be contributing to pain relief but more is being researched. Some of these theories linked to cupping benefits are:
Nitric acid (NO) theory
This theory suggests that cupping therapy may stimulate the increased production of nitric oxide (NO), which controls blood flow, volume, and vasodilation…it is hypothesized that cupping may similarly induce NO-mediated vasodilation and other local physiological responses. As a result, cupping therapy might promote healthy blood circulation and prevent conditions such as atherosclerosis.
The pain-gate theory
This theory proposes that the touch, pressure, and vibrational sensations generated during cupping therapy selectively stimulate large nerve fibers. The cupping stimulates peripheral nociceptors resulting in the upregulation of receptor-fiber units, subsequently triggering the activation of large-fiber nerves. These large fiber nerves then release a series of chemicals, enzymes, and upregulation of receptors which may contribute to pain relief.
How does long does the benefits of Cupping last?
Like any other modality, procedure, service or treatment, there is no one lock and key. For chronic issues, there could be other layers needing to be address. It may be helpful to do alongside with other modalities to help address the root issue in myofasical tissue from different directions. Once the deeper issues is addressed alongside cupping, then the results can be long-lasting vs with cupping solely.
